Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig on 21 September 1983) is an American actress who is best known for her roles in the roles of Shannon Rutherford on the ABC television show Lost and Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. Maggie Grace was born in Worthington in Ohio. She was kicked out of school when her parents separated to go into Los Angeles to live with her mother. As she struggled financially, she was able to land her first role as the title character in the web-based video show Rachel's Room in 2001. The film for television Murder in Greenwich where she played a 15-year-old Martha Moxley earned her the nomination for the Young Artist Award. Grace appeared as Shannon Rutherford on the Lost television series in 2004. The show featured her as the principal character for two seasons and was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Award. Grace quit the show in 2005 to pursue the role of a greater part in films, having appeared in the film Taken alongside Tom Welling as Kim Mills in Taken. She starred as Kim Mills opposite Liam Neeson (both in Taken in 2008) on Suburban Girl and the Jane Austen Book Club. She reprised this role in Taken 2 (2013) and Taken 3 (2015). The actress also appeared in Alice in Malice in Wonderland which is an updated interpretation from the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace was back on the Lost series for the last two episodes, playing Shannon. The year 2013 saw Grace appear in the episode Californianation of the 6th season. She plays Faith who's an avid stargazer as well as a socialite. Hank Moody, played by David Duchovny, falls for her. She belongs to the Gyllenhaal clan as well as the younger sister of Jake Gyllenhaal. Her career began as an early teenager, when she appeared in small parts in a few films directed that her father directed. She also worked with her brother on the 2001 popular movie Donnie Darko. Her subsequent roles included Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, both 2002 and Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal has received critical praise for her lead performances in Secretary (2002, erotic romantic drama) as well as Sherrybaby (606), both of which earned the actress Golden Globe Award nods. In 2006, she had numerous films that were commercially successful, including World Trade Center. However the role she played as Rachel Dawes that brought her wider attention in The Dark Knight (2008). She was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress due to her part on the film Crazy Heart, (2009). In the following years she was a part of comedies as well as dramatic movies: Nanny McPhee & the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011, and Won't Back Down 2012. Her other parts include acting as a Secret Service agent for The Secret Service in White House Down 2013, as a vocalist in Frank 2014 and also as a singer in The Kindergarten Teacher 2018, where she portrays the title character. In 2021, Gyllenhaal made her writing and directed debut in the psychological drama The Lost Daughter for which she won the Venice International Film Festival's Best Screenplay Award and was nominated to win the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
